Mumbled Afterthoughts

She came like spring after a tormented winter
After I had forgotten what warmth was
She smiled and melted the ice in my heart
The air I breathed now bloomed with hope

She didn’t say a word, but in her twinkling eyes
I saw the fears I had buried
For a little while my world felt lighter
And life became more than daily survival

She stayed briefly and became a dream
Her warmth remained long after her visit
That was the month when I discovered
I had seasons within me other than fall
